BitCurator uses open source digital forensics tools to help collecting institutions manage born-digital materials. The BitCurator environment includes forensics and data analysis software to simplify the processing of digital collections:

  • Creating raw and forensically-packaged disk images. Forensic images are fault-tolerant and embed useful metadata about the device and capture environment.
  • Analyzing files and file systems.
  • Extracting and transforming file system and file content metadata.
  • Identifying and redacting sensitive information.
  • Identifying and removing duplicate files.

For more information on the tools and related workflows see http://wiki.bitcurator.net/.
